2012-2013 Season Preview: Air Force

The 2012-2013 season kicks off for Air Force basketball in Charleston on November 10 against Army. With that first step, the Falcons look to match last season's run. They'll be replacing 17% of their minutes from last season with the contributions of eight incoming freshmen.

Air Force will see the largest deficiency on offense, where the team lost 23.3% of their assists. After that, they'll hurt almost as much in steals, where they drop 21.1%.

Air Force finished last season with a record of 13-15 overall, placing 7th in the Mountain West with their 3-11 conference record. The Falcons went on to the Mountain West tournament where they lost to New Mexico, 79-64. Air Force will feel the loss of last year's seniors Taylor Stewart (27 minutes per game), Shawn Hempsey (8 MPG), and Scott Stucky (2 MPG). The Falcons must also do without Chris Carter (9 MPG), Colt Barnhill (5 MPG), Adam Brakeville (4 MPG), and Brian Davidson (1 MPG), who left the team.

The Falcons bring back senior Michael Lyons (15.6 points/game), senior Todd Fletcher (3.3 assists/game), senior Taylor Broekhuis (2.0 assists/game), senior Mike Fitzgerald (10.4 points/game), and sophomore Kamryn Williams (1.4 assists/game).

Incoming freshmen include 6-2 Tre` Coggins, 6-7 Sherman Vernon, 6-5 Cam Michael, 6-6 Marshall Leipprandt, 6-5 Alex LaLonde, and 6-9 Daniel Salomon. Also coming aboard are 6-8 sophomore Ethan Michael and 6-4 sophomore Scott Adler.

The Falcons will face five AP preseason Top 25 opponents, including #10 Florida on December 29th, at #18 UNLV on January 12th, and #20 San Diego State on February 2nd. The first Mountain West game for Air Force is against Nevada on January 9th.
